WESTERN MUSIC DIVISION | CHINESE MUSIC DIVISION​

REGISTRATION & PRE-EVENT

a. Who can take part in the competition?

This competition is open to anyone worldwide who plays the piano, violin and cello. However, there are age restrictions for some categories. Please refer to respective instrument section for more information.

b. Can I participate in multiple categories?

You can only compete in one category per instrument section. However, you may take part in two instrument sections. For example, Senior Category of Solo Piano and Senior Category of Solo Violin sections.

c. Can I participate in live and virtual competitions?

Yes, you can compete in the live and virtual competitions of different sections. For example, Solo Piano and Solo Cello - Virtual.

d. Do I need to submit video to qualify for the competition?

Yes, there are requirements for audition video submission. Please refer to respective instrument categories for more information. 

However, if you are taking part in the virtual competition, no audition video is required. Your video submission will automatically be judged and graded. Results will be announced on the 18 July 2021 at the #NIMC2021 Award Ceremony.

e. I am interested in the virtual competition, when do I submit my  video?

Registration can be done anytime before 31 May 2021.

 

The video must be recorded within 3 months of the application and uploaded by 15 June 2021 using a separate online form sent by the Organiser upon receipt of your registration.

f. Can I sign up for virtual competition if I reside in Singapore?

Yes, the virtual competition is open to all musicians worldwide including Singapore.

g. I would like to take part in the live competition but the international borders are not open yet.

You may first apply to compete in the live competition. Should the international borders remain closed nearer to date of event, the organiser will notify competitors who are not residing in Singapore with the option of taking part in the virtual competition instead. The Organiser will refund the fee difference between taking part in live and virtual competition.

h. What are the prizes for the virtual competition?

All competitors will receive a Certificate of Performance based on their average marks awarded by the adjudicators and the 1st prize winner of each category will be invited to perform in Singapore either in 2022 or 2023. 

i. How much are the application and participation fees?

For #NIMC 2021 Live Competition (Solo Piano), there are application (AF) & participation fees (PF) as follows:
 

  • Artist Category: S$ 250 (AF) + S$ 330 (PF)

  • Senior Category: S$ 150 (AF) + S$ 270 (PF)

  • Intermediate Category: S$ 120 (AF) + S$ 220 (PF)

  • Junior Category: S$ 120 (AF) + S$ 190 (PF) 

For #NIMC 2021 Live Competition (Solo Violin & Cello), there are application (AF) & participation fees (PF) as follows:

  • Senior Category: S$ 120 (AF) + S$ 200 (PF)

  • Intermediate Category: S$ 120 (AF) + S$ 180 (PF)

  • Junior Category: S$ 120 (AF) + S$ 160 (PF) 

For all #NIMC 2021 Virtual Competition, there is only participation fee (PF) as follows: 
 

  • Artist Category: S$ 350 (not applicable for Violin & Cello sections)

  • Senior Category: S$ 280

  • Intermediate Category: S$ 220

  • Junior Category: S$ 180

Note that all fees are inclusive of prevailing GST., however, credit card processing fee is charged separately.

j. When will the competition schedule be announced? 

The competition schedule will be made known after application is closed. 

k. Which piano do we use for recording?

You can only use acoustic piano (such as upright or grand) for your recording.

l. Extension of application and video submission deadline.

Due to the heightened concerns of COVID-19, the organising committee has decided to extend the application and audition/competition video submission as follows:
 

Live Competition: 

  • Application closing date: 15 June 2021

  • Audition Video Submission closing date: 15 June 2021

Virtual Competition:

  • Application Closing Date: 15 June 2021

  • Competition Video Submission Closing Date: 30 June 2021

AUDITION & VIDEO SUBMISSION

m. How do I submit my audition/performance video file?

We have provided you two options to submit the video file. You may provide us the link in the form through a file sharing site (such as DropboxGoogle DriveWeTransferMicrosoft OneDrive, etc.) and the other to upload your file directly. 

Please note that we do not accept any link from video streaming sites such as Youtube, Vimeo, etc.

n. Can I record and submit multiple videos for audition or virtual competition? 

No. The video must be recorded in ONE unedited take.
