CHINESE MUSIC DIVISION

REGISTRATION & PRE-EVENT

a. Who can take part in the competition?

The Nanyang International Music Competition is an international competition. We welcome applications from all participants worldwide, professionals and amateurs. There are age restrictions for the various instrumental categories. Please check our page for more details and information.

b. Can I participate in multiple categories?

Yes, you can.

c. Is there live competition?

This year’s competition will only be offered online.

d. Do I need to submit video to qualify for the competition?

Your video submission will be used as your participation video in the competition. So long as your video submission meets the requirement of the category applied for, your video will be evaluated and an award will be given based on the points.

e. I am interested in the virtual competition, when do I submit my  video?

 

Registration and submission of video may be done any time before 30 June 2023. Please note that the video must be recorded within 6 months of the application date (not application deadline). 

f. What are the prizes for the virtual competition?

All participants will receive an e-certificate Award based on their performance submitted. 1st prize winners from respective categories will be invited to perform at the NAFA School of Music Lee Foundation Theatre (all transportation arrangements, accommodation and food non-inclusive).

g. Should I participate in the Professional or Non-Professional Category?

There is no restriction in the choice of category participated, except for age restrictions. Participants of the lower age groups may participate in the higher age groups, however applicants of the higher age groups will not be allowed to participate in the lower age groups due to age restrictions. Applicants are free to choose between participation in either the “Professional” or “Non-Professional” categories; their choice of category will be stated on the certificate. There is no limit to the number of Gold Awards that may be awarded by the adjudication panel. As long as the score is above 85, the participant will be awarded the Gold Award, regardless of the scores of other participants.

AUDITION & VIDEO SUBMISSION

h. How do I submit my audition/performance video file?

We have provided you two options to submit the video file. You may provide us the link in the form through a file sharing site (such as DropboxGoogle DriveWeTransferMicrosoft OneDrive, etc.) and the other to upload your file directly. 

Please note that we do not accept any link from video streaming sites such as Youtube, Vimeo, etc.

i. Can I record and submit multiple videos for audition or virtual competition? 

Submitted videos must not be edited or remastered in any way. Audio and video must be synchronized without any evidence of separate recordings being edited together. If there are two works presented, each work may be recorded and uploaded separately.

COMPETITION DETAILS

j. Is there an “Outstanding Teacher” Award?

Yes, the organizing committee will award the “Outstanding Teacher Award” to all teachers whose student(s) are awarded with Gold with Distinction, Gold, Silver and Bronze award.

k. Who are the adjudicators?

The Nanyang International Music Competition 2023—Chinese Music Division, will invite notable musicians and faculty members of major arts schools from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to adjudicate the competition. The adjudicators will be announced prior to the start of the competition.
