RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. The Competition is open to musicians worldwide and of all nationalities.
     

  2. Application deadline is 31 May 2021.
     

  3. Each competitor may take part in no more than 1 Solo Category belonging to Categories V1 through to V3.
     

  4. Repertoire Guidelines
     

    • All pieces must be played from memory; failure to do so will result in a 5% reduction from the final mark;
       

    • Performance of repeats stated in the music scores is optional except in the cases of da capo, dal segno and the minuet and trio movement;
       

    • Grand piano will be provided on stage; however, competitors must arrange for their own piano accompanists if required;
       

    • Competitors must submit 3 bound copies of their choice music to be used during the adjudication. All music posted must be clearly labelled with the competitor’s full name and category competing in. All copies of sheet music will be destroyed and not returned to the competitor at the end of the Competition;
       

    • Competitors must not exceed the stated time limit (according to the category applied for); adjudicators reserve the right to stop the participant's performance at any time after such said time limit has expired;
       

    • The Organiser reserves the right to impose a penalty of 5% deduction on the final marks if any of the rules are not adhered to.
       

  5.  Competitors are not allowed to meet up with adjudicators during the course of the competition. Non-compliance will result in the competitor being removed from the Competition and forfeiting all awards and cash prizes.
     

  6. The order of appearance is decided in draw sessions conducted and announced by the Organiser at least 2 weeks before the start of this event. The order decided at these sessions will be observed throughout the Competition. The Organiser reserves the right to make changes or cancellations to the competition order and dates, as well as any of the events that happen throughout the Competition.
     

  7. Unauthorised Photography, Video and Audio recording
     

    • Is not allowed during the Competition. The Organiser reserves the right to delete any unauthorised recordings and may request offenders to leave the competition venue.
       

    • The Organiser reserves the right to record all the proceedings of the Competition and related activities for sales, broadcast and promotional purposes without the consent of the participant nor will any payment be made to the participant.  The Organiser retains all right to the recorded materials.
       

  8. Competitors who require practice studios should contact our Event Secretariat to arrange for hiring at their own expense.
     

  9. The competitor’s submission of his/her Competition application will be tantamount to the applicant’s acceptance of the Rules.
     

  10. The decisions of the Organiser and judges are final and not open to questions, discussions, reviews or appeals.
     

  11. The jury reserves the right to withhold prizes at their artistic discretion.
     

  12. Competitors are responsible of their own musical instruments, bows and musical cases, the Organiser will not be liable for any damages or missing items.

4. The First Prize winner of the Category V1 will receive a performance opportunity in the NAFA School of Music’s Concert Series, to be scheduled in the Academic Year 2021 - 2022.

5. The Organiser reserves the right to revoke all awards and cash prizes of competitors who breach the rules and regulations of the Competition.

6. Appointed Luthier Tong Ming Xi will also be stationed within the vicinity of the competition venue during the Strings Competition for the convenience of the participants for any urgent or emergency repairs.

  1. Adjudicators will evaluate each competitor based on a 100-point scale and the final score will be averaged, up to 2 decimal points.
     

  2. All competitors will receive a Certificate of Performance based on marks scored:
     

    • Gold with Distinction       90% and above;

    • Gold                                    85% - 89.99%;

    • Silver                                   80% - 89.99%;

    • Bronze                                65% - 79.99%;

    • Participation                      64.99 % and below.
